Job Training

Breaking the cycle of poverty is difficult but must be done. There is a famous Chinese proverb which states, “Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will eat forever.” This is the philosophy to Liberia Economic & Social Development, Inc. Toward this end, LES provides training and job placement in high demand fields. These include; Block masonry, Carpentry, Roofing, Sheet Metal and Plumbing. The fourth track of the training proposed by LES is literacy training and basic skill development.

While working with the Trades Training Program students who were seeking to better their lives by acquiring job skills, it became apparent that many unemployed and underemployed citizens lacked basic proficiency in math and reading. LES construction trade program is well known in the communities as and empowering program and alternative to obtaining new careers. Trades companies have called our agency after receiving the Trades Training Literature to let us know they had workers who could not read and inquired what services LES could provide. While attempting to assist these students acquires the background to be successful in the Trades Training Trades Program and life in general, staff started the arduous journey of determining the programs available for our citizens who are illiterate. We were amazed to discover that the service most requested at the Hollywood Branch Broward Public Library was LITERACY TRAINING.

Blueprint Reading


This is a free training program for men and women 18 years or older who are residents in the Hollywood area. At the end of the training period, participants will be assisted with the job search activity, and/or entrepreneurship. Each session offers 540 Hours or 18 weeks; 8:00 am to 2:30 pm. LES will pay your class fees! Applicants must meet necessary requirements.
